My Heart Leaps up When I Behold A Rainbow

The site specific project, My Heart Leaps Up When I Behold, began amidst COVID-19 from my desire to reconnect with others through art. From my bedroom in South Korea, I sent countless emails to galleries, institutions and artists. It grew to become six relay exhibitions –moving from South Korea to Sweden, the UK, Thailand, and then back to South Korea. This was a personal research journey. Every moment of interaction directly explored ”community” in my relationship between “inside” and “outside”. The history of encounters, emotions, and exchanges were composed in this archive as shapes, materials, embroidery, and specially curated to highlight my story. The outdoor space on the roof of my house was newly renovated to host this installation. I concluded and reflected on the experiences in my own home. This work signified both the end of my journey and my readiness to embark on a new one.

Perishable

The group show Perishable sees the coming together of people and artworks from Seoul, Glasgow and London.Work exhibited apprehend much of our post-lockdown uncertainties, with concurrent themes of distance and intimacy running throughout. The exhibition tries to make sense of our new settings, where a bed becomes an office and night club becomes a petri dish. In this restructuring of everyday life, (which not long ago would seem the contents of a sci-fi film) boundaries between the personal and public become hazy and complicated.Perishableseeks to capture the sentiments of this time, where people are increasingly isolated yet codependent, displaced and far flung yet resilient, where relationships are ever more reliant on new communicative systems and technologies.

Walking Through The Place

In Covid time, we, recent graduates, are forced to have a digital exhibition as the alternative graduation show and accept ‘the new normal’ of limited contact and shows as our reality. In this ‘Walking through the place’, we are creating a site-specific exhibition to defy ‘the new normal’ to create our ‘new personal environment’ and thus make our own definition of new normal.
The exhibition space provided by CCA originally was used as a workshop site and not a space for exhibition. Here, we will try to create a temporary environment for 13 people. The exhibition itself is curated to be almost like an archive where works are situated in the manner ready to be moved, read and interacted with. This form of display underlines the fluidity and flexibility of the artworks to be in any space. It's an attempt to adapt to the location and take a flexible attitude. In the art pieces, each artist expresses the space in which they live and with a collaboration of works from the ‘Re;bounding’ exhibition in Seoul, the 13 artists explore their resolution and attitude towards facing the changing world.
Vertical Stance

Vertical Stance exhibits works of the artists who strongly convey their own location, positions and their relations within the world. The works displayed are of organic and natural manners, in either metaphorical or literal sense. They take forms from nature, harmonizing them with the environment of their location and then project them into artistic choices and expressions. The collaboration of local artists from Sweden and South Korea shows the universal stubbornness and obstinacy in humans to maintain one’s identity throughout different locations and lives. The paintings alluding to the Swedish forest hanging on the walls embrace the arrival of the installation from Korea. Here, we witness the meeting of a harmonious nature; in which all meet with their beautiful individuality and a strong stance of their own, a firm vertical stance walking through the world.
